Sunday Worship
Sunday, December 7: You are not alone. We are holding it together.
9 a.m. & 11 a.m. – in person
11 a.m. – livestream
Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout coined these words—you are not alone, we are holding it together—phrases that have come to mean so much to so many of us. Each week we remind ourselves and each other that none of us can hold anything alone. But together, we can hold so much. As we say goodbye to Dr. Rideout’s presence among us as Director of Worship Arts Ministries at First Universalist this Sunday we will send him off with our gratitude and our blessings. We will acknowledge our collective grief and our collective responsibility as we hold tight to the dream and the values that call us to practice Beloved Community together. None of us can create or practice Beloved Community alone. It is not a project that will not be complete in our lifetime. We must hold this practice together, across the generations, in all seasons and cycles. This is the work of the church.

Membership
Membership Class Open Now:
We ask that congregants who are interested in becoming members take the Membership Class. In December, we’re offering an extended single-day class in which participants have an opportunity to get clear on what they personally are committing to as church members and what a mutual, reciprocal church community commits to them in return.

Individually, many of us are struggling. Struggling to make ends meet, struggling to keep our heads up, struggling to live not only in despair, but with joy and presence and connection. It is in this moment that we arrive in December to our worship theme of Honest Hope, Lament, and Sanctuary: We move through darkness with honest hope—not by turning away from grief, but by holding it together. This is a sanctuary for what’s real, and what is yet possible.
