Welcoming Paolo Back to First U
News –
Last Sunday, Dr Glen Thomas Rideout offered us these words of benediction as we parted:
“Be careful—your voice will teach you just how powerful you are when you work together. It doesn’t take any money; all it takes is the will to stay together. Don’t you dare do anything otherwise. And let’s be better at it the next time we gather and forever more.”
Even as we continue to grieve the loss of Dr. Glen Thomas’ presence and leadership among us, we turn together to welcome the future—remembering the call to stay together, growing in the power of our voices—and getting better at it all the time.
As we move into a time of transition in our worship and music arts ministries, we are grateful to welcome the leadership of Paolo Debuque as part-time Director of Music from January to June of 2026. Paolo will coordinate Sunday morning music, serve as our lead Sunday morning musician, and direct our choir for teens (10th grade and up) and adults. Paolo will also be with us on Sunday mornings in December beginning this Sunday, December 14, and for our Solstice service on Sunday, December 21 at 7 pm. Please join in offering him a warm welcome, and by bringing your voice to Sunday services and our choir.
As always, let me know what questions you have. I’m so grateful to be in this community of faith together.
In gratitude,
Rev. Jen
Dear wonderful people of First Universalist,
Even though it’s been more than a year since we last made music together, I often think back on our time with deep affection. The love, curiosity, and empathy in this church are truly remarkable, and I’m grateful for the chance to make music with you all again. I believe so strongly in a First Universalist full to bursting with beautiful music of every kind, and I’m beyond thrilled to be able to contribute to that vision!
Thank you for welcoming me back to this community. I’m honored to be in your midst, and excited for all the music and meaning we’ll weave together.
With gratitude and love,
Paolo
