Upcoming: Environmental Justice at First U

News –

The Environmental Justice (EJ) Team invites you to join them in opportunities to learn, connect, and act for justice:

Take a Stand: Close the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center Now

May 6, 6pm-7:15pm, Zoom discussion with Minnesota Environmental Justice Table

Do you wonder what a Zero waste future could look like? Part of that future includes the immediate closure of the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (aka the HERC).  Trash incineration is no longer a viable solution for our waste, and it is an environmental justice issue, as the burning of our trash at the HERC impacts our black and brown neighbors and beloveds in North (and Northeast) Minneapolis. Please join Emily Wallace and the EJ Team as they engage the Minnesota Environmental Justice Table in a discussion about the HERC and the impacts it has on air quality and the health of communities around it.

Seeding Change: The Power of Conscious Commerce

May 16, 4:30-6:00 pm, in the Cummins Room

Special First U Environmental Justice Eco Screening | a 50-minute film followed by discussion, light snacks provided

20 years ago, a young group of social entrepreneurs joined a movement to change the world through the pursuit of an alternative economic model and practice of conscious commerce. Seeding Change is about “triple bottom line” businesses that consider the social, environmental and financial impacts of their companies and address some of today’s most challenging issues.

This documentary empowers viewers to be part of the solution by voting with their dollars and supporting the brands and products that align with their values.
