It is always the right time to do what is right

A message from Rev. Jen Crow, Senior Minister

Beloved Community springs from experiences of transformative, unconditional love. To be known, to be seen, to be welcomed and valued. Stretching and exercising the muscles of compassion and curiosity and humility, developing practices of joy and resilience, making hope and love a way of being. I imagine Beloved Community springing from a literal posture we can remember and embody: head up, heart open, hands ready to be held and outstretched. As we practice this way of being, our spiritual strength is renewed, and the wonder and joy we experience in relationship with each other and this beautiful, broken world expands.

In the weeks ahead, there are two particular opportunities to build Beloved Community that I hope you’ll join in.

This coming Monday, June 29, 5:00-8:30 pm, led by Unidos, First Universalist will be hosting several congregations for dinner, inspiration, conversation, and training to help us build stronger connections, uncover shared purpose, and align around action that makes a difference. In particular, we’ll be learning how to deepen relationships and strengthen community within First Universalist, and from these experiences, inspire change. Dinner will be served, and Beloved Community will be created—all we need now is you! Sign up here, and invite a friend from church to join you.

On Wednesday, July 15, 6:30-8:30 pm, First Universalist will be hosting several congregations (including First Unitarian) and welcoming in neighbors for a Democracy Defense training by Monarca, the group that led us so well in preparation and care for our neighbors this past winter and spring. Through this training Monarca will prepare us again, this time to ensure the safe, fair, and free elections that are essential to healthy democracy. Sign up here, and invite your friends to join us. Together, we will show again that the power of the people is stronger than the people in power.

It is always the right time to do what is right, and it is always the right time to deepen our connections with one another and strengthen our practice of interconnection and love. This is who we are, this is what we do, this is the work of the church.

In gratitude,

Rev. Jen
