Public Witness for Racial Justice Planning Meeting
First Universalist Church and Black Lives Matter Minneapolis invite you to a planning meeting on Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. to discuss a faithful public witness and direct action for racial justice that will occur next month on Monday, April 11 in the afternoon. One of the things we will talk about on Thursday is the ways our faith moves us to stand up for justice. We are excited about this opportunity to work together in faithful partnership to discover ways to articulate what calls us to racial justice work and to plan a direct action for April.
We have extended an invitation to White Bear Unitarian, Calvary Lutheran, Unity Unitarian,The Kaleo Center at United Theological Seminary, The Unitarian Society, Edina Community Lutheran Church, The Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, Lyndale United Church of Christ, and Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Aliance. You are welcome to invite other faith communities.
Here is some background information from Lena and Kandace of Black Lives Matter Mpls:
Lena and Kandace from BLM Mpls have been working with the local Catholic Workers group on their annual, regional Faith and Resistance Retreat. Last year the CW held their retreat in Ferguson; this year they are holding it in Minneapolis. The local CW are putting together, in collaboration with Lena and Kandace, a weekend long conference and training for the group culminating in a public direct action. Portions of the training will be open to the other local faith groups as will the direct action. The event will be on Monday, April 11 sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please come if you want to find out more information and participate in this faithful public witness and direct action for racial justice in our city and state! (Lena will co-lead a debrief for our church afterward for those who are interested.) This is a people of faith only action; it will be semi-public. But there will not be a mass public invite and more info will be available at this meeting.
Please RSVP Denise Konen if you will join us on Thursday, March 17: Denise@netgains.net.
