Film Screening: “The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code”
Please join us for a screening of the film, “The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code” with film director Sheldon Wolfchild of 38 Plus 2 Productions on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Cummins Room. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase.
The movie clearly illustrates the ways in which the papal bulls and royal claims of Christian domination infuse our daily lives today, especially through use of the precedents set by the U.S. Supreme Court. Attendees will have the chance to engage with Sheldon on how the movie has brought to light the Doctrine and the impact and influence it has had in the U.S. and Canada for the past 524 years.
The film tells the story of how little-known Vatican documents of the fifteenth century resulted in a tragic global momentum of domination and dehumanization. This led to law systems in the U.S., Canada, and elsewhere in the world that are still being used against Original Nations and Peoples to this day. The film concludes with traditional teachings developed over thousands of years that provide much-needed alternatives for humans and the ecological systems of Mother Earth at this time.
This event is co-sponsored by the Environmental Justice and Racial Justice teams at First Universalist Church.
