Memorial Service for Minister Emeritus John Cummins to Be Held Dec. 21
The Reverend Dr. John Cummins, minister emeritus of this congregation, died on Saturday, Dec. 11, at his home in Minneapolis. Carol Cummins, his daughter, was with him as he transitioned.
John and his wife, Dru Cummins, moved with their family to Minneapolis in 1963. For decades a leader in liberal religion and an ardent supporter of progressive social causes; active in the civil rights movement, the sanctuary movement, in women’s rights and immigrant rights and so much more – John served this congregation with dedication and care until his retirement in 1986. Before that he served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Maine and Massachusetts. Both John and Dru were actively involved in denominational leadership.
In addition to Carol, John is survived by his son, Clyde. He was preceded in death by Dru and their son, Christopher.
A celebration of John’s life will be held in the sanctuary at First Universalist Church and streamed online via Zoom on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. All are invited to join us to celebrate John’s life and ministry.
