Explore the world with our First U children

News –

In this uncertain world being able to offer certainty to the youngest among our congregation matters. Children thrive on consistency and routine. Right now, that is hard to find in our neighborhoods and in schools. Let us make sure it can happen at church! This is a low-time, high-impact way to be of service.

Our Kindergarten through 5th grade religious education classes need 13 more adult volunteers in order to continue running from now through May 3rd. Will you help us create a magical space for our children to learn, grow, evolve, and then to teach us what we did not know that we needed to know?

Here are the specifics:

At the 9:00 am service we need:

Three (3) volunteers for Kindergarten-1st grade
Three (3) volunteers for 2nd-3rd grades
Two (2) volunteers for 4th-5th grades

At the 11:00am service we need:

Two (2) volunteers for Nursery + Pre-K
One (1) volunteer for Kindergarten-2nd grades
Two (2) volunteers for 3rd-5th grades

A couple of substitutes for one or more grade levels would be greatly appreciated!

You do NOT need to be a great teacher in order to volunteer in the K-5th grade religious education classes. Our K-5th children simply need caring adults who will connect with them. Adult volunteers guide the children through each week’s RE lesson, but more importantly, adult volunteers create a safe space for children to connect with each other.

You do NOT need to be a parent of a K-5th grader to volunteer. Children simply need adults that they can count on being there for them. Volunteers give our K-5th graders another trusted adult with whom they can feel seen and heard. The children give volunteers with their individual talents and evolving wisdom.

You do NOT need to volunteer for every RE Sunday – only a couple of times each month, so that you get to know the children in your class, and the children get to know you. This is an easy opportunity to lean into First Universalist’s commitment to building an intergenerational community of connection.

You will NOT be alone, because each K-5th grade classroom has a minimum of two adult volunteers. Each RE Sunday, there is a support person (Tami or Kathleen) who connects with volunteers (while the children are still at the service), who leads the K-5th Children’s Chapel, and then supports and empowers the volunteers and children during their RE classes.

K-5th grade RE volunteers build upon each other’s strengths and share our collective wisdom to create a magical space for our children to learn, grow, evolve, and then to teach us what we did not know that we needed to know. Please come and explore the world from the perspective our children.

Connect with Hirut if you are able to share space with our K-5th graders on RE Sundays: hirut [at] firstuniv.org.
