John Steitz photography in the sanctuary

News –

The Visual Arts Committee at First U collaborates every month to create a beautiful space at the front of our sanctuary that invites the congregation to deepen, reflect, and be inspired.

John Steitz, Audio Engineer for First U, backpacks through wildernesses and, from often precarious vantage points, captures technically and breathtakingly artistic photos. Fabric versions of five images are on view in our sanctuary: Dusk layers of the Grand Canyon, light dappled waterfall in the rainforests of Olympic, foggy autumnal twilight in the Superior National Forest, blowing sunset sands of Death Valley, and frigid sea smoke sunrise in Grand Portage.

In Summer 2024, Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout held a Sunday service “Art & Soul”  conversation with John with images projected. At the same time, John’s photo exhibit of people of George Floyd Square resided in our Social Hall.
