“A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota” Book Discussion will be held at Cummins Room
“A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota” Book Discussion
Please join us at one or both of the next two book discussion sessions (Nov. 3 and Dec. 1) which are a drop-in format and don’t require attendance at a previous session. This book is a terrific read with its sixteen essays by accomplished writers about their experiences as people of color living in Minnesota. It’s highly readable, a poignant and sometimes painful insight into their perspective on Minnesota Nice and just how cold Minnesota can be. It is available at most book stores and the Minnesota History Center. First Universalist will be hosting several of the writers at a public forum in late January on a date we are still finalizing.
For the discussion on Thursday, Nov. 3 (7–8:30 p.m.), participants are asked to prepare in advance by reading essays 6 through 11 (pages 81–155) of “A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota.”
RSVPs are appreciated to Sandy at sandy@firstuniv.org, but drop-ins are welcome!
A discussion of the final essays in the book will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 7–8:30 p.m.
Discussion leaders: Polly Talen is a retired foundation executive, a founding member of our Racial Justice Leadership Team, and long-time First Universalist member. Margaret Manderfeld joined First Universalist specifically because of our commitment to racial justice. Both have received training to facilitate racial justice programming.
