Collective Truth, Collective Power

March 21, 2021

Each of us has a piece of the truth, and together, we are so much wiser and braver. Together, we have strength and imagination, accountability and encouragement big enough for transformation. When each of us brings what we can, including our vulnerability, we have the collective power to build a community of liberation and joy.  Join us on Sunday, March 21 at 10 a.m. as we explore our collective truth and our collective power, with a special cameo appearance from a modern day UU superhero.

Caring for Creation

March 17, 2021
Rev. Justin Schroeder

Tonight, we conclude our three part series on “Caring,” by focusing on what it means to care for the world, for creation itself. Our own lives are full and complicated and rarely easy. Given this reality, how might we still practice holding all of creation – every being – in the circle of our care? We happens when we extend our care far beyond ourselves?

Join Rev. Justin for a midweek worship experience for adults and older youth. This service is a brief time (20-30 minutes) of connection, centering, and reflection to help us find and keep our balance.

How Do You Measure a Year?

March 14, 2021
Rev. Justin Schroeder
Photo of a tree with sprawling roots. The tree is large and has green leaves; blue sky is visible through the leaves. The roots are entangled with one another and with the earth in the foreground of the image.

How do you measure a year? How do you measure “five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes?” The hit song from “Rent,” invites us to measure a year in love, and that’s certainly a good measure. But this past year has been full and complicated: fear, grief, loss, struggles with mental health, slowing down, re-evaluating everything, new rituals, recipes, and cooking adventures, and the death of loved ones are ways many of us have measured this past year.

This Sunday, March 14 we will mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic, make meaning of what we’ve experienced, acknowledge we’re not through it yet, and lift up ways to care for ourselves and one another as we move through the third quarter of the pandemic.

Phase One

March 03, 2021
Rev. Justin Schroeder

Our March worship theme is “Caring.” At its core, care is about compassion, the root of which means to “suffer with.” Care and compassion move us beyond sympathy to deep and profound empathy, to understanding and sharing the feelings of another, to suffering and rejoicing with another human being.

Over the next three Wednesdays, in a 3 part series, we’ll be exploring the religious and spiritual dimensions of care and loving kindness as they relate to self, to those in our immediate circle, and to the wider human family and world we are a part of. Part 1 will be an exploration of care as it relates to self-forgiveness. And we’ll reflect on how focusing on any of these areas impacts all the other areas. Join us this Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the “spiritual waystation,” where we’ll fill up with poetry, prayer, and music.

The Truth of Now

The only place our lives happen is in the present, yet for many of us, our minds spend a lot of time being everywhere else but here, now. In this service, we’ll enter into the truth of the present moment through word, song, and shared practice and see if we might get a bit more comfortable hanging out here, now, together. Please join us online Sunday morning, February 28, at 10 a.m.

Telling Your Unapologetic Truths: Themes That Make a Life

February 24, 2021
Rev. Karen Hutt

Have you ever considered the themes that constitute your life narrative? Are there recurring episodes in your life that you want to use a remote control to fast forward through? What if we were unapologetic about our lives? What would you replace “woulda, shoulda, coulda” with? Do Unitarian Universalists understand life stories in any unique ways that feed our minds and hearts? Come; let’s ask a lot of questions, propose some ideas and leave the service with more questions.

Join Rev. Karen Hutt on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. for this midweek worship experience for adults and older youth. This service is a brief time (20-30 minutes) of connection, centering, and reflection to help us find and keep our balance.

Remember, You Are Water

February 21, 2021
Rev. Jen Crow
Image of a bench on a snowy hill. The photo is shot from behind the bench, and snow-covered trees and a sunrise are visible in the background.

The truth is, grief hurts. It is exhausting, disorienting, and downright awful when we lose someone or something that matters to us. As we approach a year of pandemic living and losing, grief is our everyday companion. The author and activist, adrienne maree brown, reminds us that we are water, that the salt trails of our tears are the natural outcome of our living and loving. This Sunday, February 21, we’ll continue to recognize our losses and the love that keeps us connected.

The Joy of Multiple Truths

February 17, 2021

How adept are you at living with the realities of ambiguity? Does multiplicity cloud your theological constructs or does it enhance them? Karen Hutt this Wednesday, Feb. 17  as we explore these questions, create new ones, and leave without answers.
