“Humanism Is Black”

February 27, 2022
Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout, Franco Holder, Rev. Arif Mamdani, Rev. Karen Hutt

The first humanists in the United States were people of African descent. They brought with them a philosophy that is rooted in every attempt America has made to envision a more perfect union. Sunday, Feb. 20: black magic

February 20, 2022
Aimee K. Bryant, Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout, Franco Holder, Julica Hermann de la Fuente, Rev. Arif Mamdani

BlackLivesMatter. Self-care. Intersectionality. The Underground Railroad. Fractal world change–the power in communities of communities. “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” pleasure activism. Warrior poetry. Stonewall, and the countless other times a drag queen gets her life, and saves another.

Women are powerful and dangerous, Audre Lorde writes.

Thank goodness.

Join us in the sanctuary; or help us build community from wherever you are. We’re conjuring a joyful celebration of the million ways black female and trans pioneers make justice and love more real, every day and night.

Sunday, February 13: “Murmurations”

February 13, 2022
Aimee K. Bryant, Franco Holder, Julica Hermann de la Fuente, Lauren Wyeth, Rev. Arif Mamdani

In Emergent Strategy, adrienne maree brown invites us to imagine a future in which we humans have gained the ability to move akin to a flock of starlings, each of us attuned to those around us, able to shift and move in concert with the community(ies) of which we are a part. This Sunday, February 13, we’ll gather to wonder about the wisdom of starlings and how they might inform our lives, and we’ll celebrate and lift up those in the community who volunteer their time and energy in the multidimensional dance of church, making this community the vibrant and radiant place that it is.

Wednesday Meditation at 7 p.m.

February 09, 2022
Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout

“Over My Head”

The best dreams won’t give up until they’re real. The dreams we draw, the ones that give us over to dance, verses that call us back to imagine beyond even imagined barriers—that’s art.

This week, we journey with drag, painting, words, and music brought alive by legendary Black artists. We’ll spend purposeful breaths, pause the tumble into what’s next of life, and remind our bodies free—and honor the audacious claim to freedom alive in centuries of Black dreams.

Join Dr. Glen Thomas Rideout for this short (~15–30 minute) midweek time of meditation and connection! Launch the Wednesday Meditation Zoom here (Webinar ID: 117 312 320) between 6:55 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 and we’ll get started at 7 p.m.
