Sage-ing Wisdom Circle

In From Age-ing to Sage-ing: A Revolutionary Approach to Growing Older, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi shows us “sage-ing, a process that enables older people to become spiritually radiant, physically vital, and socially responsible ‘elders of the tribe.’” He also stresses that the importance of doing the “inner work” of this stage requires a community of what he calls “spiritual intimates.” And where better to find “spiritual intimates” than at First Universalist?
Karen West is a Certified Sage-ing Leader for Sage-ing International (www.sage-ing.org) and long-time member of First Universalist. “I hope you will join this Sage-ing Wisdom Circle so that together we can explore this new life stage and learn what it means to, as Rabbi Zalman puts it, age ‘triumphantly.’”

Mission
Older adults at First Universalist empower each other to live intentional, joyful, purposeful, and spiritually fulfilled lives.
Vision
Older adults are recognized and valued, both at First Universalist and in the wider community, for their leadership, wisdom, and service.
Daytime Connections aims to:
- Build and maintain a visible and vibrant community of older adults who experience caring and support through deep social connections.
- Engage older adults in programs and activities that promote conscious aging by fostering personal and spiritual growth, and fulfilled lives of service and meaning.
- Support acts of courage among older adults experiencing challenging life transitions, by providing safety, deep exploration, and spiritual support.
The First Universalist Senior Advisory Team plans and organizes programs and small group activities based on topics of interest that have been expressed by our older church members. In keeping with our focus on Conscious Aging in Community, most programs and activities will invite us to awaken to all that is possible at this stage of our lives as we reflect on meaning, personal and spiritual growth, and service to others and the world.
Programs usually include a presentation about an intellectually stimulating topic, often related to contemporary social issues, as well as issues of particular concern at this stage of our lives. Programs include an opportunity to discuss with other attendees how the topic has relevance in our lives today.
