Community Dinner will be held at Social Hall
Community Dinner
Swing by church for a delicious home-cooked meal at 6 p.m. in the Social Hall. All are welcome and there is no charge. We always offer vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, nut free and kid-friendly options. All church events are alcohol-free. Following dinner, stick around and join a breakout group to learn more about one of the many opportunities for deeper engagement at church.
MENU: We’ll be serving macaroni and cheese with vegan and gluten-free options, along with a green salad, fruit salad, and cookies.
Breakout Groups (6:45–8 p.m. unless otherwise noted)
• Family Pre-Party, 5–6 p.m. We’ll host space for play and socializing for families with babies through 1st graders in the Library, and set out board games and coloring for families with 2nd–5th graders.
• Youth D&D Campaign, 5–8 p.m. (early start!) Middle- and high-school youth who are experts or new to D&D are welcome to show up, learn, and play. Our Dungeon Masters are Ian and Dave Leppik, First U members.
• Stone Soup Bring a bunch of carrots, a quart of broth, a bag of onions or whatever’s in the back of the pantry and let’s see what we can throw together. We’ll freeze the soups we make for Congregational Care Team volunteers to deliver to folks when they’re not feeling well.
• The Spiritual Practice of Art Making Let the spirit move you as you paint, color or craft. We’ll provide materials and a few ideas for inspiration. One of the options will be to make paper snowflakes for use by the Visual Arts Team in the winter holiday decor at church. You’re also welcome to bring your own work, such as knitting.
• Becoming a Wise Parent for Your Grown Child Join us for a brief presentation followed by a guided conversation about the spiritual work of parenting adult children. What values and practices might help us approach the relationship with wisdom and equanimity? Let’s explore and expand our understanding together.
• Get to Know CloseKnit First U is exploring a new Faithful Action partnership with CloseKnit: Loving Youth out of Homelessness. Learn about CloseKnit, discover how you might become involved, and expand your understanding of youth homelessness and the systemic racial, economic and structural and barriers that family and friends face when they try to support young people seeking housing.
