There are two versions of this curriculum; one for people from faith traditions and one for folks in community. The original curriculum was created for white participants new to abolition, by two white activists, Denise Konen and Bianca Zick, who are members at First Universalist Church of Minneapolis, and edited by Julica Hermann de la Fuente, former Director of Liberation and Transformation Ministries at First Universalist Church of Minneapolis, in 2021. It has been adapted continually as we learn from participants, facilitators, and the growing abolition community.
First Universalist Church is offering this curriculum freely to other faiths and communities to use. You are invited to add prayers, meditations, songs, and rituals from your own faith tradition, and/or change it, as needed, for wider community use. Please let us know if you choose to use it, if questions arise, and if there are any major concerns. May this exploration of abolition support your learning, expand your connections with others seeking awareness and understanding, and bring collective liberation, action, and healing to our world as we reflect on the carceral system and it’s impact on each person, and in particular Black, Indigenous and People of Color.
