“Mental Health and Addiction” with Dede Armstrong
What is the ribbon that ties mental health and addiction together? How can churches provide the important support and acceptance needed for mental health and addiction recovery?
As we mark the month of May as National Mental Health month, members of the Pastoral Visitors team invite you to join us for an informal talk and discussion about Mental Health and Addiction on Sunday, May 6 at 1 p.m. in the Cummins Room. This conversation will be led by Dede Armstrong, Coordinator of Non-Residential services and Facilitator of the 55-plus non-residential program at the Retreat, a 12-Step-based residential recovery program. As a daughter, mother and individual, she has experienced mental health and addiction issues and has come to believe that “living the solution to addiction is far more important than defining the problem.” Please come with your questions, thoughts and curiosity.
You will also find an information table in the social hall with resources available to all church members and the wider community through Mental Health Connect, a collaborative of eight community churches including First Universalist, that provides information and referral services to anyone who has questions about mental health concerns for themselves, a family member, or significant other. (If you want support and information, this free and confidential service can be contacted at 612-312-3377. You can call for a consultation or go on the website for more information and resources. The information table will explain more about the resource.)
