Donations Needed For Undocumented Children
Stand on the Side of Love This Sunday: Call For Donations For Undocumented Children in Need
This Sunday, First Universalist member Karen Wills will be gathering donations to help alleviate suffering of undocumented children who have crossed the southwestern border. Surely you have heard that thousands of children are crossing the border with nothing but the clothing on their backs. Our donations of clean, new socks and underwear will help 650 children and mothers waiting for review of their immigration status, at a new facility in Artemisia, New Mexico, which is opening next week or so. These efforts are in support of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee’s “Standing on the Side of Love” campaign.
Please look for the STANDING ON THE SIDE OF LOVE faith in action table at the Lake Harriet Bandshell this Sunday.
These specific items will be collected and shipped to Artemisia. (Shipping costs have been donated specially for this purpose.)
What they need in Artemisia is:
(1) NEW SOCKS OF ANY SIZE FOR KIDS & ADULT WOMEN,
(2) NEW UNDERWEAR OF ANY SIZE FOR KIDS & ADULT WOMEN, and
(3) NEW OR VERY GENTLY USED CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS, ESPECIALLY BOOKS IN SPANISH.
Please bring what you can, even one book or one package of underpants will be of help to kids who have nothing.
Thank you!
Also, you can join the UUSC in urging Congress to fund services to care for these children while their immigration status is reviewed. You can send an electronic message to Congress by clicking here.
