First Universalist Church Annual Family Campout
Labor Day weekend – Sat, Aug 30 to Mon, Sep 1
Our 3rd Annual Family Campout is a great way to start the church year!
We spend three days and two nights tent camping, playing, and relaxing together in the beautiful, secluded woods of the Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center, just 20-30 minutes from the cities. This sweet spot, reserved just for our group and not open to the public, is adjacent to the Minnesota Zoo and across the road from the Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Apple Valley.
What we do:
- We arrive on Saturday between 11am-12pm and get our tents and kitchen set up. Light snacks are available from 12pm-2pm.
- All families gather at 2pm for our opening meeting, where we get to know one another, sign up for chores, and then play some rousing group games, fun for all ages.
- Starting with Saturday night dinner, and throughout the weekend, meals are prepared in the Sacajawea Retreat Center building. The retreat center has a large lawn, picnic tables and a fire ring where we gather to eat, play and make s’mores under the stars each night.
- Sunday is a full day of fun! After breakfast and outdoor worship, families pack sack lunches and choose how to spend their time together — options for group activities include swimming or canoeing at Schulze Lake, exploring the bike trails of Lebanon Hills Regional Park, or just hanging out around camp.
- Monday morning we share breakfast, pack our vehicles and clean up our camp, and gather for a closing circle at 11am before heading home at noon.
