Music is an integral part of life at First Universalist Church, both in Sunday morning services and other events throughout the church year. On any given Sunday, our worship service is blessed with all mediums of music and art making: the choir performing a piece by the phenomenal Eric Whitacre, the Universal Rock Band belting out a Billy Taylor number, singer songwriters such as Ellis and Ann Reed, and spoken word artists like Frank Sentwali and Guante.
Under the direction of Rev. Ruth MacKenzie, Minister of Worship, and our professional staff, dozens of members and friends participate in choir, instrumental ensembles that accompany the choir, or as soloists.
Guest artists occasionally perform with our various ensembles and choir, to enhance our music making, and to reflect the vibrancy and variety of the Twin Cities music scene, of which we are a part.
Each Sunday, a member of our team of Worship Associates opens our service with the Call to Worship: a personal story, a poem, or prose they have created and then present.
