First Universalist Church Pledge Team 2016–2017
Marcia Wattson, Pledge Team Chair, was raised Unitarian in Bloomington, Ind., and at the First Unitarian Society in Minneapolis. She has been a member of First Universalist since 1982. Her first deep involvement in service to the church was through the Unity Summer youth program. She was a Board trustee from 2000-2006, President in 2005-2006, and worked on the Sesquicentennial Steering Committee and the Welcome Team pilot project. Marcia joined the Pledge Team three years ago, after retiring from Hennepin County Library, because she wants to ensure that many more generations of children will be nurtured in this loving and justice-seeking community.
Zack Steven is a technology entrepreneur with a passion for good design, big ideas and strong communities. He and his wife Shannon have been attending First Universalist for about 5 years with their sons Calvin (12) and Everett (9). They live near 54th & Xerxes and were previously members of Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, where Zack served as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
For Jeanne Guignon Peppel, becoming a member at First Universalist in 2010 has been a true gift. As a clinical social worker, and life-long spiritual seeker, it has been so fulfilling to find this faith community that encourages spiritual exploration along with social, racial, and environmental justice, in a loving – and often enjoyable – way. After participating in community circles, Wellspring, racial justice trainings/actions, and much more, Jeanne decided it was time to “give back” in a bigger way, both financially and in service. Joining the Pledge Team in August 2015 has been the right choice for her to be able to do this.
