Daytime Connections: “Creativity: Bringing Joy to the Spiritual Journey of Aging”

Through Daytime Connections, older adults empower each other to live intentional, joyful, purposeful, and spiritually fulfilled lives. Programs include a presentation, discussion and small meal (a $5 donation is requested for the meal). Many older adults have found joy, inspiration, and creativity in activities they had never thought to try. Singing, drawing, photography, woodworking, quilting, or writing are just some examples. Join us for a mid-day adventure of playing and stepping outside of your comfort zones. Come, take a risk and expand your horizons as you discover the creative side of yourself while playing with friends and having FUN! Church members Marilyn Lamoreux and Bill Elwood will share stories of their creative discoveries in later life. In small groups you can choose to have fun with one of the following:

• Movement & Stories to Discover Inner Wisdom with Interplay instructor Hannah Mitchell: In two words, Interplay is transformative and improvisational. Everyone can do it. It is an easy, fun, life-changing, active and creative way to unlock the wisdom of your body. Based in a series of incremental “forms,” Interplay leads participants to movement and stories, silence and song, ease and amusement. You can “have it all” — both MIND and BODY.
• Singing to Discover the Song in your Heart with music teacher Ann Kay: Come have fun singing songs and playing singing games. Everyone can sing – YES EVERYONE. You just need to find your optimal pitch. Come find yours! You will be happier and healthier when you sing because it boosts your immune system, pumps your endorphins, and increases oxytocin, which causes you to feel more connected with others.
• Writing to Discover Your Inner Child with author Marion Dane Bauer: We’re going to play with words and with memory. You’ll create a verse — don’t be intimidated; this means neither rhyme nor great poetry — about a moment from childhood. It will be fun! Bring a notebook or paper and a pen.
• Painting to Tap Inner Joy with visual artist Briana Goetzen: Explore the wonders of watercolor, wax resist, and color! You will have a 9×12 inch sheet of watercolor paper and access to a variety of watercolor paints to try. A technique or two might be mentioned, but this workshop is mostly about allowing your inner muse to wake up and play! A bookmark and post card template will be supplied if you wish to turn your explorations into artful post cards and bookmarks as a reminder of their experience.
