What is annual giving (pledging) and why is it important?
Annual giving (pledging) is how we sustain the work of the church on an annual basis. Every year, we renew our commitment to First Universalist—to care for our church, sustain its programs and support the work we do outside our church. Your financial gift is crucial to our viability as a religious community.
How can I make my gifts?
Cash or check: Bring your contribution to church or mail it in. Just make sure you note that it’s an annual gift. We have envelopes in the sanctuary and church office you can use for recording cash payments.
Online: You can use our system on MyFirstU to set up a recurring payment using a bank account or a credit/debit card. If you want to pay online, but do not want your contribution to be automatically withdrawn, see the next question. You may also fill out the paper card provided beginning in March, providing your bank account or credit card information, and church staff can set up your electronic payments in our online system.
Other methods: Less commonly used methods include donating stocks to the church and setting up an automatic bill pay through one’s bank. If you wish to donate stocks, it is important that you notify Andrea Love at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I want to contribute online but I don’t want an automatic withdrawal every month. Can I do that?
Yes! You can use MyFirstU to set up one-time payments. Log in and choose “One time” from the frequency drop-down menu. You will have to log in and schedule your one-time payments each time you want to give.
Does the church accept credit card payments?
We accept major credit/debit cards including American Express. However, if it is possible for you to use a bank account rather than a credit card, that saves the church a considerable amount in credit card fees each year.
How can I see how much I’ve given this year?
Every three months, the church mails quarterly pledge statements to all congregants with a pledge. This statement is meant to inform you where you are with your payments and to hopefully allow us to correct any discrepancies between our records and yours. These statements are not meant to be read as bills, because you are freely giving and do not owe the church. We know the formatting of these statements can be confusing, but this is how they are generated by our system. If you have questions, contact Andrea Love at email@example.com or via phone at 612-825-1701 x 100.
You can also view your pledge payments in MyFirstU at any time. From the home screen, go to the top left corner and hover your mouse over the “Home” button, then select “My Profile” from the drop-down menu. Click on the “My Giving History” to view your gift record.
When does the fiscal year begin and end?
Our fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.
